After School Goodness

I don't know about other children but mine are not interested in eating at school. I've tried really hard to come up with brilliant lunch time snacks but apparently eating interferes with play time so they need something that is really quick to eat. That used to be wholemeal bread with nutella until a new child with a nut allergy started in Julian's class and now he can no longer take that. I've come up with 100's of suggestions, I've been given 100's of suggestion but finally I've given up. He now takes a muffin for recess and a salada with butter for lunch. That's all he will eat - anything else and it comes back with him after school. This stressed me a little and then I figured, he has a healthy breakfast and I give him healthy snacks after school and then he has a good dinner - that will have to suffice.

This is today's healthy snack. It's what we call the Froozie. It's a cross between a Freezie and a smoothie. I generally put in any fruit that seems good that I have on hand. Today's is made up of pineapple (frozen), raspberries (frozen), orange (sweet and juicy), and mango juice. Blend it all up until it's smoooooooth. Because of the frozen fruit, it's really very cold but it tastes like a little bit of summer and it goes down a treat.

Sometimes we put yoghurt in it too - but today we didn't have any :(
I can almost see the vitamins and minerals pumping around our bodies!!

cheers

My son(when smaller was similar for many years ) and I just figured that he ate HUGE breakfasts (always 2 bowls of porridge), very little lunch and an ENORMOUS tea. It doesn't seem tohave harmed him.

My son was the same at that age as well - now he is 13 though he eats really well at school as he is constantly starving! Love your fruit drink ideas - it is great when they love healthy snacks! My daughters school now has "crunch and sip" and you are allowed to bring raw vegie sticks and fruit into the class to snack on. Anything that gets them to eat more fruit and veg is great!

Sounds delicious!
And I wouldn't be stressed about it; it seems that he eats healthily and enough!

One of my kids has just gone to high school (we're homeschoolers) and it's the same for her. She says there just isn't time to eat anything at school. She doesn't take much to eat, but she does do breakfast and the after school snack. It seems to be fairly universal!

Hi Levine

if you go to the health section in your supermarket you should be able to get a product by Sweet William called chocolate spread it is nut free (also dairy free & gluten free) this is what we have instead of Nuttella as we are gluten free & I also have a peanut allergy so have to be careful of contamination with other nuts I can get it here in both Coles & Woolies so if you have a problem let me know & I can get some for you... If you dont tell hiom its different hell never know!! put some in an empty nuttella jar hehe..

I have this problem with my teen son. He refuses to eat lunch at school. He's always so hungry when he gets home...I always have food ready for him when he hits the door!

froozie sounds delicious...I'm sure Julian gets a great dose of healthy goodnes from them.
My kids love fruit so I'm sure they'd enjoy it served in a glass. I have to stock up on fruit every few days as we go through a lot of it.
