I made this from a jelly roll that my niece, Madi, bought me at Hettie's Patch. I wanted to do something a little more challenging than my previous two quilts but not something too taxing.
ps a big thank you to donna for her yummy scone recipe. i made them for my mum and dad today and they went down a treat! my mum, the scone and pancake queen, loved them and wanted the recipe for herself.

We've been a bit sick in our household lately. Last week Julian and Louis were sick then on Sunday I woke up with the dreaded cold and then on Tuesday Julian woke up with the 'louis virus' as he likes to call it. So, not much has been happening here lately.
On Wednesday I managed to get to my quilting class and I have to say that despite my foggy head my blocks actually worked.
More to the point - I made triangles! I can't believe it. I'm so glad I went as I had been feeling pretty poorly but I figured I would feel just as ill at home moping around doing nothing. It was a wonderful distraction and I came away with such a sense of achievement!
I also managed to finish of Julian's scarf this week. I started it about a week ago, just using up scraps of wool I had left over from other projects. Julian commented on how much he liked it and so I decided to give it to him.
Emily is very, very jealous. She believes it would look perfect with her new orange coat. Julian's prepared to share it......at a cost.
I've almost finished the binding on my jelly roll quilt and then I think I might have to start on a quilt for one of the boys. Any ideas? I want to make a quilt that will grow with them (ie not a quilt for a little boy). Julian loves the colours of fire - yellow, orange, red and blue. Louis is not fussed but would like red in it - because red cars are fast.
Any ideas, hints or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Better go - I have to be in town soon to meet Emily for an appointment. I should probably leave my wallet here though as Spotlight will no doubt beckon.......

Today was a special day for us. Julian and Louis had a mental health day and together with my mum and dad we went to Kadina to say Happy Birthday to my niece Karen. It was such a lovely day and we had such a great time.
The boys had so much fun at Karen's house with all the toys she has set up for the family day care kids she looks after.
Julian and Louis hadn't been to Kadina for a looooong time (Louis was 5 months old and Julian just over 3) so we took them into town to have a look around. Mum offered to take them to the playground whilst Karen, Dineke and I went to the quilt shops to spend all of Karen's birthday money.
We had a lovely picnic of pies and pasties in the park - it's such a lovely playground for kids!
Then we had a cup of tea at their house before heading home again. It's a longish trip but the boys coped well with it thanks to ipods and the fact that Julian got up at 4.00am to ask if we were going soon, then5.15am, then finally at 6.25am (I think he was a little excited) so they both fell asleep!
We're home again now - I left the house in a bit of a hurry this morning so I best go do some dishes and a bit of tidying.
Happy Birthday Karen!!!!

Last weekend I decided that as Emily was much better we would have a lovely weekend doing lots of things. Then Louis woke up on Saturday night and crept into bed with a fever. He woke on Sunday morning with a sore throat and headache and was very, very poorly.
Later that morning, Julian got stung by a bee and had an allergic reaction - so it was off to doctors, chemists and home again where he rested. In the late afternoon he complained of feeling cold and tired. Yep, he had a fever too.
So, my week has consisted of doing the absolute basics in the house and lots of nursing. Julian, much to his disgust, was fit for school on Thursday, but Louis only really started to get better yesterday.
Guess who woke up this morning with a sore throat and a headache????
And the question that begs to be asked - "Who is going to nurse me?????"
On to better things though. I did managed to do a bit more quilting.
I've actually managed to sew my binding on to the quilt and now I am hand stitching - which may take a couple of nights but I actually find I like doing it. I never realised how soothing hand sewing is.
Before they got sick, we managed to get out to the shops as both the boys had a bit of money to spend. Julian bought himself some Indiana Jones Lego which he's had much fun with. He's also become Indiana Jones himself, and is forever jumping off things and swinging on things and dodging imaginary obstacles. I'm not sure if the furniture is going to survive.
Louis got himself a beautiful red scooter which should do him until he can get his much longed for, very fast, red mazda. The good news is that Julian is now allowed to use his scooter again. The bad news is that Louis insists on scooting all the time - both inside and outside the house. I'm forever getting my feet run over by the thing and tripping over it too.
Well, I'm off to convalesce - perhaps with a nice cup of coffee and a freshly baked muffin?
Hope you all have a good week.
