To sash or not to sash???

That is the question!

I bought some fat quarters in Kadina when I was there for our quilting weekend and I've finally decided to use them.

I'm using a block that I've just recently learnt how to make in my quilting class.
I decided on this particular block as I thought it would join together well and avoid the need for sashing.

But, my quilting teacher thought it would look better with sashing in between and a block of different fabric in each corner.

Now I'm confused so I'm throwing out to you guys - should I sash or should I not???

cheers

ps sorry about the crappy photos -i felt inspired to blog and quickly took photos whilst cooking dinner.

No! I love it without the sashing! Such lovely fabrics. So beautiful. I guess it depends what effect you want, but I do think it looks great without sashing.

Hmmm... I would suggest if your quilting guru is offering to sash for you then you tell her to go right ahead!

I like it with the sashing and it will be so much easier to piece with sashing, no seams to match up when putting blocks next to another identical block. Maybe just use one of your two beautiful fabrics for the cornerstones in the sashing rather than introducing another fabric you aren't so keen on. It's your quilt and you are the only one who has to love it.

Well I know nothing about quilting and have just learnt through this post what sashing is too. They are all lovely Levin, you are so clever, but I agree with Lisa....I prefer it with sashing but not introducing another fabric.
Can't wait to hear what you decide! good luck.

You are doing a great job with your quilting lessons. I think to go with your first feeling which is without sashing. Good luck with your decision!

Definitely without - I think Caroline just really likes white fabric! ;)

I know the seaming might be a pain, but think of it as a lesson in patience. Goodness knows, that's what I've been trying to tell myself while I'm piecing Hettie's Patches together!!

This is coming from someone who know nothing about quilting.. just going on what looks the best.. to me your quilt without the sashing wins hands down! Love that paisley fabric! ..just think it looks far better not broken up with white! Gx
Good luck with your decision anyway ;D
