Just before the holidays, our old, old shed had to come down as it was a potential hazard. David, the avid recycler, decided to use as much as he could from the old shed to make a cubby house for the boys. His aim was to make it completely without having to spend a cent. Unfortunately he had to buy a couple of posts, but other than that it's made from things he's scrounged from around our garden and my dad's shed.
This became the school holiday project.
The boys tried to help as much as they could - it was quite fun to watch them enthusiastically telling David what to do!
The lookout tower - no doubt they will be spying on me in the kitchen!!
As you can see, David has used the old iron from the shed to clad half the cubby.
This is how it looks today. The boys have moved in and made a huge mess which doesn't bother me as I'd rather they mess that than my house - lol!
Finally a carved name plate for the door. David did the carving telling the boys in no uncertain terms that they absolutely, definootly shouldn't play with the carving tools as they were very, very sharp. A few minutes after he came inside, Julian came running in, looking very sheepish, needing a bandaid. Now he knows that dad really, trooly meant it! ouch!!cheers

gotta love the backyard cubby!! we have one in our garden that came with the house...whenever we have kids around they always go straight to the cubby....on one of the first visits a friend's two little girls came back to say that "that's not a real cubby house...there aren't any tea cups"...LOL ...actually come to think of it I still haven't remedied that!

cool cubby! The thing I like most about an outside cubby is that you can send all the ugly toys that you don't want in the house out there!
