one cold, wet, wintry day

Last weekend we had some rather lovely cold, wet (how beautiful that rain sounded), wintry weather - perfect for being indoors and for crafting.
Emily and I were knitting leaves for her sports day costume and the boys asked if they could make something and "did I have any spare wool"?
Silly question....
This is just a fraction of the wool I have stashed around the place. It's been put away for this exact reason - so that my kids will have something to play with.
To start with they decided to make gods eyes for David's birthday - something for him to hang up in the garden.
But then Julian asked if I could teach him how to knit again.

The look of pure concentration.
He got it - okay, there were lots of dropped stitches, and lots of made up ones - but he actually managed to do quite a bit of good knitting. He needs to understand the concept that he can't really knit without watching what he's doing though - not at this stage.....

Louis ended up trying to do some stitching, whilst the others were knitting. So there we sat, safely ensconced in our warm house, enjoying our grey, wintry day :)

Last weekend was definitely one for staying inside and knitting or sewing. I've given up on knitting and do a bit of crochet instead, I can at least half watch TV at the same time (unlike with knitting where I need total concentration)

My idea of the perfect weekend! It is great when your kids want to engage in crafty activities.

I miss those days at your house :-(

Our lounge room isn't set up for crafting in, cos there just isn't any decent light. And you've seen my room... I have the sewing machine set up ok, but no room whatsoever around it for actually working in :-P

But with that tantalizing glimpse of wet weather, I am fully inspired again!!

It's so funny, Levin: here in Sicily we can't stand the rain anymoreand in Australia you desire cold and rain!!! We hope both spring and summer to be warm but not too hot. Nice to see you both knitting on the armchair. Have a nice week, Clara.

I wish I had my kids so far they would like to join, it looks so cosy to sit and enjoy these things... Esther knows how to cross stitch, Esther and Lucas both sewed on my machine... I think he would be the most keen, but misses perseverance... David knows how to stitch, maybe he will be the one...

Sounds like the perfect rainy days activity.
I need to teach mine to knit/crochet so we can cuddle inside this winter. X
