So what have you been doing lately.

Well the answer to that question would be.......Quilting!
This is the strippy twist quilt that I started ages ago which was supposed to be my summer quilt for our bed. Well, summer has passed for now (although we are in for another warm spell) and it's still not finished. Admittedly I never mentioned which summer it was for......
It's a big job and I try really hard to do a little bit at a time. I've nearly finished stitching in the ditch (and over the ditch - lol) of all the big squares and then I plan to quilt a small square inside.
And as this is such a huge job which I like to avoid where possible I've taken to making more of these:-
I give you the pot holder! The simple easy project that takes very little time and stamina.
This time I tried out free motion quilting which was super fun. .
There were a few incidents where my stitching went a little astray but overall it's not too bad
And yes, I've been using all my new pot holders - cause somewhere in the back of my mind I know there's an awful lot of fabric in my stash to make hundreds of potholders......
cheers

I have a quilt sitting on the spare bed waiting to be quilted, I haven't quite decided how to quilt it (in the ditch or not) so I guess I am avoiding it as well,
potholders freeform quilting is looking good

Your quilt looks amazing...I'm in awe of your stamina to continue with such a large scale project. The colours are just gorgeous.

The colours of the quilt look so beautiful. I've never made a quilt, and I agree with Birdbath, such an awesome thing to persevere with.

Yes, your quilt is beautiful! The colours are so happy, it does look like summer. Love your free motion quilting, well done! Sewing is so much fun, isn't it? I have been in bed all day with a headache, but I feel better having seen your photos, they have made my day! (Hey! Sometimes the word verification is so apt, but not today. It's "unwow". Your post is definitely "WOW!")

And your free motion quilting is great.. I by the way does not find it easy and I would have to take a deep breath if I am going to try again. But yes sure I will try it again some day!!
Funny my husband is in Australia right now, he will be turning home tomorrow. He is in Queensland, hot and sticky he told me...

did you plan for your wedding to be on your birthday, or was it just coincidence? oh, and forgive a dumb question from a newbie quilter, but could you make lots of pot holders and then join them together to make a big quilt?

Hey L....I had an idea. Maybe I can do a couple of pot holders to start with. I reckon I could manage one of those...with tuition, of course.

PS That quilt is awesome!

Your quilt is lovely and they aren't supposed to be perfect. They are made by hand and with love not by a robot. That is the beauty of hand made art.

I'm avoiding a few quilts that need quilting. Sometimes it can be so tedious! But you have inspird me to keep going. I love that quilt by the way- the colours are lovely.

I'm loving the colours in that quilt, and the pot holders are fab! I wish I could say I've been as creative, but lately, no.

Thank you for stopping by at my blog! It is so much fun meeting all those new people. I like the colors of the quilt you are doing and would really love to see the whole quilt!

Every time I look at your strip-twist quilt I get that itch to start my own... but I must persist with my red 'n' white Hetties Patches.

And my 9 patch from Moda Blossum.

And someone reminded me the other day that I started that random Diane Schwerdt Log Cabin quilt in greens a while ago - how's that coming along? Best not to ask...

But I'm pretty sure piecing an entirely different quilt top would be far more fun!! Right?

This quilt looks great, love the bright colors. I would not dare to quilt such a big one by machine, the handling really scares me :-)
If I should ever win big at the lottery I wouldnt not go for a sportscar or a holiday on some caribbean island, no, I would go for a long arm quilting machine :-))

One can never have tooooo many pot holders. That quilt looks like a big job and it will be lovely to throw on the bed in November.
