we live in the driest state, on the driest continent.
i've heard this so many times growing up. now that i'm grown up i realise it's true and sometimes i find it a little scary. right now it's really dry out there and it's not even summer. our lawn is crisp and you need sunglasses on to look at it. very dire. i'm hoping for a little rain - actually i'm hoping for a lot of rain and soon.
anyway, on our camping trip we saw lots and lots of dry landscapes. it was hard to imagine, when we turned off the road at a sign that said 'Mannum Falls', that we would see any water. after a hot, dry, dusty walk we found gold!
i've always loved water. i remember i was obsessed with this book once as it had kids playing in a pond in the park. i love the beach, i love running creeks in winter, i love waterfalls. and i loved finding this at the end of our trek - bliss.
i should add though - i hate cold water. i'm a sook when it comes to swimming. it has to have been over 35C for a few days before i will get in a pool or the beach. brrr!
so today my post is in gratitude of water - it's very precious here and it's very much appreciated by me!

I love water too. This post really resonated with me, I think it's something to do with growing up in Adelaide. We don't have a lawn, but I walked on the lawn in a park on Friday and realised that it was crisp. Our footpath (that used to have lawn, but it died) is so dry that the clay soil is already cracked with quite big cracks. What will it be like in summer?
Oh yes-the joy of water and plenty of it. It is scary how everything is so dry already and the hills near us turned brown overnight.
What a gorgeous spot to visit even if the track leading up to it was dry and dusty...
We could do with some good rain over this way too. Our Summer storms have usually started come this time of year but nothing on the horizon this year for at least another month... :( Hopefully the dams don't get too low for both us and our stock..

interesting post...i love to learn more about places people live. a beautiful spot at the end of your walk. water is such a precious resource...until it's not there, i'm not sure we value it like we should.

It's really scary, isn't it? I was saying just this morning that I'll be putting away everything with sleeves longer than my elbows, because I won't be needing them until May next year - Summer comes up faster and faster these days!
The driest state in the driest continent philosophy was drummed so far into my head, I hear it nearly every time I turn on a tap! But I appreciate the concern for the future, and I want to live in a land that is able to share its resources without restrictions and conditions.
And sometimes that dry landscape can hide some brilliant treasures ;)
It's a worry isn't it this lack of rain...it makes me wonderI if it's worth even starting the veg patch I've been contemplating. As for lawn - we have far too much of it and very little use for it.
The camping trip must have been fantastic..something magical about great bodies of water.waterfalls are especially good.
Isn't it depressing...our lawn is crisp also 3 hours a week isn't keeping it alive.
